Foot series in standing

Foot series is an excellent exercise for clients undergoing ankle/knee rehab or for anyone participating in Pilates.  It can be easily incorporated into the warm up or main body of a Pilates session.  Some aims of this exercise include:

  • Challenging postural control in standing
  • Challenging balance
  • Re-training ankle control and proprioception
  • Re-training lower limb alignment

In the video below, you can see Sarah has incorporated the use of a small Pilates ball.  This is a lovely modification to engage more through the adductors, assisting awareness and ability to maintain correct foot/knee/hip alignment.

Join us on APPI Matwork Level 2-Class Instructor to learn a fun selection of warm up and cool down movements, like foot series in standing,  that you can then incorporate into your group classes or 1:1 sessions. There is a large focus on supine, prone and side lying positions in the matwork Pilates repertoire but it’s vital to incorporate some standing exercises into your sessions with the obvious benefit of challenging control in a functional and weight bearing position.
