This course offers an in-depth exploration of APPI-modified Pilates movements using the arc barrel, a versatile and accessible piece of Pilates equipment. Lightweight, portable and cost-effective, the arc barrel is designed to enhance any matwork program, providing both support and challenge where it’s needed most. Ideal for instructors working with clients in rehabilitation or anyone looking to deepen their matwork practice, the course demonstrates how this equipment can adapt exercises to suit different levels of strength, flexibility and mobility.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to use the gently curved arches to support the back, shoulders and neck while promoting proper spinal alignment and elongation. The arc barrel can prevent lumbar hyperextension in prone exercises, assist in opening the upper quadrant, and increase the range of movement in targeted exercises. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how subtle adjustments to positioning and technique can maximise the benefits of each movement.
The course also emphasises the rehabilitative potential of the arc barrel. It is an effective tool for clients recovering from stress, tension, or injury, providing a safe and supportive surface for deep muscle stretching, joint mobilisation, and controlled strengthening exercises. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical knowledge and applied techniques to confidently integrate the arc barrel into matwork sessions, helping clients achieve improved mobility, alignment and overall well-being.
